The PWD is expecting to finalize conceptual plan of fly-over scheduled to come up at Agartala by the first week of September, Engineering Chief of the Public Works Department said here today. Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, Bhowmik said that a Delhi-based consultant has readied conceptual plan for the projects. A final presentation is scheduled to be held in the first week of September. “They gave a few presentations. We asked them to make some modifications which are currently in progress. If the proposal is approved during the presentation next month, we would be well on our way to make the DPR”, he said.
To cope with the rising pressure of population in Agartala city, the state government resolved to come up with two fly-overs connecting the city with its suburbs. The first and most significant one would connect Badharghat drop-gate and Battala, mainly to ease heavy traffic on the National Highway. The second fly-over would connect North Gate and Circuit House. The fly-over from drop-date to Battala is likely to be extended to parts of Akhaura Road, Durga Chowmuhani to be more particular, in phased manner.
Engineering Chief Bhowmik has assured that the Shiv Mandir or the legendary banyan tree at Battala wouldn’t be hampered in any way by the fly-overs. “They (fly-over) will go in a ring above the temple and the tree. We consider this spot significant enough for nearly everybody”, he said.
Meanwhile, work has been set afoot for double laning of Jogendranagar-Takarjala road. Tender for award of contract is being scrutinized. Earth formation has already been made till Takarjala. Bhowmik said that existing formation can be used to make the double lane road straight till Jampuijala.
